HOW IT WORKS:
We choose a dog at Pasadena Humane who needs a little more help finding a home. I set up my camera and yoga mat in the training room at the animal shelter, and introduce myself to my guest Yoga Assistant. We go for a walk in the neighborhood and then we film a yoga class together, and my furry friend is free to participate however they wish. The class is posted for the public to enjoy, and the adoption applications come flooding in!

THE GOAL:

  • find our guest Yoga Assistant a loving home

  • give our guest Yoga Assistant a break from the kennel

  • raise the profile of shelter animals and promote adoptions

  • spread the joy and benefits of yoga for all… especially to pet owners! Calm, balanced humans make calm, balanced pets.

    Sir Patrick is an absolute gem of a dog. Found on the streets of Los Angeles as a stray, he was brought into Pasadena Humane and quickly became a staff and volunteer favorite.

    Next up... Shania! This lovely girl has had a rough start in life. She was picked up as a stray and brought into Pasadena Humane, and that is when her luck changed!

    The resilience of Bonnie’s spirit is inspiring. You only have to look at her body to see that she has had a hard life. But the thing that really stands out when you spend time with Bonnie is her energy and her unwavering sparkle.

    Princess Leia is around 3 years old and she is such a sweet girl. She walks well on the leash, loves to play and enjoys a cuddle… She especially enjoys a good shoulder rub! (See the relaxation part at the end of class!)

    This beautiful 2 year old Shepherd was brought into Pasadena Humane as a stray. She was a little nervous at first, but with the help of the staff and volunteers, Leslie has blossomed into the very special dog she was always meant to be!

    Pull up a chair and enjoy a gentle 10 minute class with this magnificent boy! Pumpkin Pie is around 6 years old and he is a sweet gentle giant. He was rescued from a neglect situation and the amazing team at Pasadena Humane have cleaned him up and he is now ready and waiting for YOU!

About the Project

At the beginning of the pandemic, I moved my yoga business online and started teaching at home on Zoom.

During class, my dog, Ella, and my cat, Elvis, would frequently wander in and join me on the yoga mat, and I started referring to them as my "Yoga Assistants”. They soon became a regular feature of my classes and developed a following among my students. 

This sweet experience gave me the idea to use my online yoga platform, and my skills as a filmmaker, to promote other Yoga Assistants who are in need of a loving home. And the project “Adopt a Yoga Assistant” was born! 

I am so excited to be collaborating with my local animal shelter, Pasadena Humane, on this new series. It is very close to my heart and combines three of my greatest loves… yoga, animal rescue and filmmaking :)
